While it is true that photos on canvas are cheaper than oil paintings or any other paintings in general, that does not mean to say that they are to be neglected and still expect that they remain beautiful throughout its existence.

Like any regular paintings or works of art, they have to be cared for and maintained. If you are wondering how you can do that, here are some tips that will help you keep your photos on canvas looking like new.

At first, you have to take note that your canvas prints are painted with a special lacquer coat that safe guards them from weather, dust and any other contaminants. This means that you would not have to do much to really protect your framed pictures. You just need to follow these simple tips to keep them looking great.

1.    When choosing a specific place where to hang them, try to select a spot that is free from humidity and away from direct sunlight. This prevents the colour of your canvas prints from fading and the cloth from being discoloured and brittle. If you can, try to pick a cool and dry place where they are shielded from dust and any other substances.

If the place of your choice turned out to be too dark, then just install small pin lights that can provide the sufficient amount of illumination you need.

2.    If your photos on canvas seem to be a bit gritty and dirty, never attempt to clean it by hosing it down. As a reminder, keep this general rule in mind – ink and water do not match. So if you feel the need to fresh and clean your canvas prints, merely wipe them with a dry cloth or a duster. The lacquer coating on it should be enough to let all the dust slide off quickly and easily.

And if for some reason anyone spilled or splashed water on your canvas, then taking action immediately! Get an absorbent lint free cloth and dab it on the print to keep the water from seeping through.

3.    To make sure that your frames stay on your wall, check their metal fixtures for any rust. If you see that there is, then delicately dab the affected area with a rust solution. Just be careful because you would not want to have the solution spread to the canvas.

4.     Should you decide on changing the frames of your photos on canvas, then make sure that you use acid – free frames. This is important because acid is known to quickly discolour your prints and in due course ruin it in time.

5.    When moving your photos, try to be careful with it because stretched canvas on a frame can be very fragile. They can easily give in to any sharp and pointed objects or edges.

Those are 5 simple tips that can help you keep your photos on canvas looking like new. Again, you do not really need to do much as those little efforts can give your photos a longer life.

The Basics About Camera Aperture

Sep 3, 2010 Author: admin | Filed under: General Photography

If you’re just starting out learning photography, then you’ve probably noticed that photographers have a language all their own. Camera aperture is just one of those common photography terms that gets used a lot without much explanation.  No need to worry though, as this article will give you a great and clear guide to understanding aperture.  Here is a breakdown on what aperture is, how it works, and why you want to use it:

Camera Aperture Explained

In simple terms, camera aperture is the opening in your lens that lets light come into contact with your film (or digital sensors). The opening can be changed using your camera’s F stop or if you have a digital camera you can change it using the manual settings.  Some digital cameras even have a fixed aperture mode that lets you pick the aperture and the camera automatically figures out the other settings.

Aperture is measured in “F” numbers and is usually represented on your camera in abbreviations such as F8, F/8 or some variation in between. As the F value increases in number, the amount of light allowed into the camera decreases. For instance, an F value of 1/4 would be considered wide-open, while 1/22 would be pretty much as closed as possible.

What Does the Aperture Really Do

Camera aperture has a dramatic impact on the final prints of your photographs. A closed aperture will let in very little light into the camera, which will give you the chance to expose the film (or digital sensor) for a longer period of time. Adjusting the F value is a great way to use slow shutter speeds and long exposures without overexposing your film into oblivion.

Aperture also gives you the opportunity to react quickly to changes in lighting.  If you’re photographing in a bright environment, a high F stop (very closed aperture) will give you the chance to use slower shutter speeds. In contrast, when shooting in a low-light environment, opening up the aperture to a very low F value will provide you with greater flexibility in capturing your image and may even save you from requiring a flash.

When is a Good Time to Change the Aperture?

You don’t have to manipulate your camera aperture.  Many SLRs adjust the aperture automatically to great success making it easy not to worry about it. However, if you want more direct control over the depth of field in your image then you can manually adjust the camera’s aperture. An open aperture (low f stop) will give you very little depth of field (subjects close to the camera will be clear while the background is blurry) and a closed aperture will make everything in your photograph seem more detailed.

Knowing when and how to adjust your aperture is a powerful tool in any photographer’s bag of tricks. One great way to see how it affects your images is to shoot every photograph twice – once with a low F value and once with a high one. Aperture is a great way to expand your creativity with the simple change of a setting.

What excites the couples the most is saying for better or worse, I do and having some cake at the reception. To make sure everything will be in order on that special day, couples usually plan their wedding months or even years in advance. Preparing tremendously for the big day, everything must be well organized and arranged–the caterer and the church, the gown and the tux, and even the wedding entourage. The pre-wedding photography is usually done before the big day so the couple could have nice photographs they could use for the invitation and have them get to know the photographer more and vise versa.

Couples nowadays have different phyappointments with their photographer for the pre-wedding photogra. There are different types of pre-wedding photography that couples can avail. The save the date shoot, the engagement or pre-nuptial shoot and the test photo shoot at the location consist of these. These all happen before the wedding and provide the couple with photos they can use.

A save the day photo shoot is usually done in order for the couple to have pictures in their save the date video. Asking the guests of the wedding to save a specific date is basically its purpose. This further announces the couple’s plan on getting married, where and what time. It can show the different stages the couple went through before deciding to get married. These photo shoots usually show the fun and quirky side of the couple. It could be shot in the memorable locations for the couple like the place where they first met or where they shared their first kiss.

Once the save the date photo was done the engagement or pre-nuptial photo shoot immediately follows. While some couples opt to do their save the date shoot and engagement shoot separately, some like to do them at the same time. The bride’s engagement ring will be shown in the pre-wedding photography shoot and it’s usually held in a romantic location. It can also be done at a memorable place for the couple like the save the day shoot. The photos from this shoot are usually used in the invitation and the various backdrops at the reception. The couple’s romantic side will manifest in here.

The last pre-wedding shoot isn’t really considered a formal shoot. Photographers like to have a basic knowledge of the location of the wedding before the actual event date. The clients may be asked by the photographer to have a test shoot at the venue in order to know where the lights enter what lensesn to use and what other types of equipments to bring. Few days before the actual wedding, these shoots are being done.

All these pre-wedding photography shoots provides interaction between the photographer and the clients making them more at ease and comfortable with each other. The photographer will have easier time to shoot on the day of the wedding because of this. The information was given by a groom who’s a businessman of alarm systems installation and home theater projector selling.

At present, digital cameras are available in different types and sizes. Various producers are introducing their newest digital camera models.  We had better discuss one such item known as SD keychain digital cameras.  the short form SD signifies Secure Digital.  It is a memory card format extensively utilized in cellular phones, digital cameras and video game consoles.  Keychain cameras can be defined as cheap, tiny digital cameras.  Generally they come with lenses of plastic and keychains and are given as publicity gifts. Therefore, the name is self-explanatory of as being a cheap and compact digital camera.

To be fixed to a key chain it has got to be very tiny.  So, it is obvious why it is so lightweight, as little as 15 grams. That’s why it could be so easily portable.  If you are looking for a compact and low-cost digital camera that can shoot excellent pictures, choose one from amongst SD keychain digital cameras.

My advice for you is to browse the Internet for details on digital cameras prior to really buying one. Once you get hold of such sites, please go read every detail of the specs and other technical details.  Thereafter, evaluate them against your requirements and knowledge in photo-capturing.  Give particular consideration to memory card, zoom, LCD size, ease of use and mega pixels.  And most of all, read the user comments and forums where the consumers have put down in black and white their experiences with the particular camera . This applies to SD keychain digital cameras as well.

Sd keychain digital cameras function as video, still and PC cameras.  Usually they offer video capturing facility, focus free lenses, SD card slot for extra storage and easy to decipher LCD.  Anyhow, it can somewhat differ from brand to brand. So do the prices from model-wise and brand-wise.

It may not be necessary anymore for people to use SD keychain digital cameras since much more versatile digital cameras have already been introduced to the market or is being added regularly by various manufactures all over the world.  Nevertheless, for those who are on the look out for cheap but option-filled digital cameras for their photographic needs still find SD keychain digital camera a perfect instrument that has not lost it appeal yet.

Digital Photography Tops Film Photography

Aug 31, 2010 Author: admin | Filed under: General Photography

Prior to the recent digital photography revolution, particularly over the last few years, film ruled the roost. And while film photography still has its devotees it’s largely fine art photographers that resist digital. It’s fair to say that digital photography has officially usurped the throne.

Of course, there are downsides with digital photography. Some say there is a qualitative deficit when comparing film to digital. Mind you, software has become so refined that apparent limitations can be mitigated, and some might say, totally dealt with. With CDs, for example, while they can’t match the dynamic depth of vinyl, they also are not saddled with scratching and static noises.

Many photographers stayed loyal to film waiting until digital matched the excellence of film. Now, all but the immovable old-schoolers will grant that for most kinds of photography, including modern wedding photography and commercial photography, digital has not only made its mark, but has gone one better than film.

For a decade digital has had it over film with respect to convenience. With film, you have to process the film and then if you want to tweak the pictures in Photoshop you must scan the negatives - a time consuming process. With digital you take your shots, upload them lickety-split and get on with it. That alone is a startling advantage. Some of the best wedding photographers, for instance, upload the ceremony and park pix onto their laptop for guests to see during the reception.

One noteworthy drawback to digital concerns the ability to take an almost unlimited quantity of images. Needless to say, this is a good thing, especially for candid wedding photography. Sadly, it also means that some digital photographers get trigger-happy.  This unconscious photography requires them to keep shooting so they don’t miss anything – this not only makes them more intrusive, but often results in taking a boatload of images, while bizarrely managing to neglect the profound moments. As is often the case, less if often more. Those photographers who come from film learned to look for those ‘moments’ and not shoot willy-nilly as if they are being paid by the number of pix they rattle off. Of course, they also had to keep in mind that more images meant more film, which meant more processing and more cost. In other words, there was a self-limiting system at work, which arguably spawned a more attentive photographer. So, while digital offers the opportunity to take lots of shots, the progressive photographers always understand when to press the button.

Regardless, recent advances in digital camera technology that are rendering film photography purely niche (other than for rather narrow uses). Firstly, the image quality is now equal to (though not the same as) film. Secondly, the low-light facility of the latest higher-end cameras is stunning. The fastest film is 3200 ISO and it is extremely noisy. Only photographers specifically wanting this look go this route.  Of course, at times they have no option because they are going to be shooting in a low-light environment without flash or lighting. It’s almost unfathomable how capable the newest digital cameras are in this regard. Top Nikon and Canon cameras can go as high as 102,000 ISO. Absurd. Now, it’s really grainy at that top level, but what it means is that you can have decidedly serviceable photos at up to about 12,000 ISO.  This is a god-send, particularly for photographers who shoot with existing light and often shoot in low-light. The days of having to forgo depth of field or sharpness to achieve effective exposure – or just not be able to get the shot at all – are done with.

When used properly and to its full potential, digital photography represents the new standard. Salute the new chief.

What Is Digital Photography?

Aug 29, 2010 Author: admin | Filed under: General Photography

Most people do not truly know and care on what is digital photography. Yes, the query pertaining to what is digital photography is, indeed, rather difficult to answer. We do not think about it deeply, because by using only a few basic pieces of knowledge concerning this hi tech, we’ill be ready to take several of the best pictures we’ve ever taken.

Regardless of the fact, the popularity of digital photography as a new pastime has made more and more people desire to understand what is digital photography. We’ve been pretty familiar with older, standard cameras such as Polaroid, cameras that use film and disposable cameras long before this fresh technology comes. But now, digital photography is getting more and more appealing so that we begin to think what digital photography actually is.

The Basics

To own a good knowledge on what is digital photography, you should recognize the process involved in it. Digital photography is what happens when pictures are produced using digital technology, kind of like a computer. The image you tell it to will be captured by this technology, and then will be transmitted into a digital picture that can be seen, manipulated and printed it using some of the best personal laser printer like HP color laser printer or other kind of printer without having to develop any film.

When you use digital photography, no film is needed and no chemicals are used. Unlike traditional cameras, you do not require using a black room. You can produce digital photos using a traditional camera by scanning the developed picture into a computer. The scanned picture then turn intos a digital picture on your computer screen.

Accessories

The aspect regarding what is digital photography will be to know what accessories you necessitate to take the pictures you want to take, as well as keep your camera secure. Camera cases will be one of the crucial accessories you must have, particularly to house your digital camera. These cases come in different shapes, styles and colors. There are even camera cases presenting the room to store extra batteries, camera straps and sometimes more than one digital camera.

Among the great digital camera accessories, there are extra lenses attached to digital cameras providing more zoom strength or width angles. With the help of such accessories, you can capture pictures in a wide variety of ways. This thing would be impossible to do without them.

Other famous accessory is the memory cards, which enable you to store more photos on your digital camera at one time. In some cases, you are able to store up to 5,000 photos at one time. You can add twice the amount of photos your camera can hold right out of the box by adding even a very small memory card to your camera. The smaller memory cards are of good value as well, some running as low as about $10 on sale.

Now you get a short, simple explanation in relation to what is digital photography. This comprehension about what is digital photography might result in the decision to purchase such digital camera. Nonetheless, don’t fail to remember to do some research before you plan to invest in a digital camera. Utilize your time to see many selection there. You should know exactly which of these that will best meet your needs. Maybe it’s not difficult for you to walk into a camera shop and then walk out with a camera that you think meets your needs. Nevertheless, don’t let yourself miss out on a really great deal of digital camera. Use enough time to know what options are really out there and obtain the best digital camera you’ve always wanted.

The Power Of DSLR Cameras

Aug 28, 2010 Author: admin | Filed under: General Photography

Nature Photos

DSLR cameras have brought high quality photography equipment to the masses. Of course a professional quality camera is only part of what you need to take great pictures. You will also have to know how to use your DSLR camera and that can be a lot more complex with a DSLR than with a point and click.

And I think far more important than understanding all the technical stuff is having a good eye. You need to develop a good sense of what will make a good photo. A great example of this kind of “eye” can be seen when looking closely at these Beautiful Prints by one of the best artistic photographers.

From personal experience I can recommend a Canon Rebel XTi DSLR in particular. It’s a great Digital SLR camera that has worked for me without any problems for about three years now. It is also rather cheap by the standards of professional quality cameras. Of course you should consider that those standards are quite high, it is about $700 and that’s without a lens!

As you educate yourself more about pro quality cameras you will come to understand that the lens is very important. If your experience comes mostly from point and clicks you are most likely used to thinking that the megapixel count is the most important thing about a camera but that is not the case at all.

With DSLRs, the lens is what makes the biggest difference in the quality of the photographs. Really the topic of lenses is too complicated for me to cover in this article, I just want to make you aware of the importance of lenses and that if you want to get serious about taking great photos you will have to look into the subject deeply.

Just like with any other skill, you will only become a expert photographer with plenty of studied practice. You will need to read all about the art of photography and then you will need to take lots of photos experiencing for yourself all of what you have found out!

A World of Advantages with Canon’s Technology.

DIGIC 4 Image Processor has evolved Face Detection Technology that tracks the faces of moving subjects and lets the shooter enter the frame seamlessly with the Face Detection Self-timer.

DIGIC 4 Image Processor

Canon’s most advanced image processor, DIGIC 4, delivers evolved Face Detection Technology that keeps every face in every photo looking its very best. The technology finds and tracks the faces of moving subjects until you’re ready to shoot, then delivers perfect focus. In addition, exposure, flash and white balance are compensated, so that faces exhibit natural skin tones and backgrounds are properly exposed.

iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the advanced DIGIC 4 Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.

A Face Detection Self-timer automatically detects an increase in the number of faces and makes the appropriate adjustments. For instance, to include the photographer’s face in a group shot, there’s no need to rush in. Just put the camera on a stand or tripod, specify Face Detection Self-timer, and the camera will wait for the photographer’s face to get on-camera before it takes the shot. Motion Detection tracks the moving subjects in a much larger range, and the Servo AF retains focus on a moving subject after the shutter button is pressed halfway – allowing you to wait for the perfect shot without refocusing.

Intelligent Contrast Correction

DIGIC 4 also makes possible the i-Contrast (Intelligent Contrast Correction) system, which controls the compensation level in pixel units to brighten dark areas while leaving bright areas unchanged for better images where the main subject is dark, and more natural transition. The PowerShot SD780 IS can even use i-Contrast in playback mode to adjust images that were shot without the setting activated.

Red-eye Correction provides three good options for removing red-eye from subjects in flash pictures.

  • 1) Red-eye Correction during shooting actually identifies and corrects red-eye in human subjects as pictures are taken.
  • 2) The PowerShot SD780 IS Digital ELPH can be set to automatically detect and correct red-eye during image playback.
  • 3) You can manually locate any red eyes in a scene during image playback on the LCD screen, and command the camera to remove them.

Life doesn’t give you any second chances to capture special times. That’s why the PowerShot SD780 IS Digital ELPH features an ISO 1600 setting that reduces the big effects of camera shake and sharpens subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater shooting flexibility. ISO can be expanded to 3200 when you select ISO 3200 Special Scene Mode.

Pop art portraits would make an interesting twist in the home décor so a lot of people are thinking of ways on how they can get their hands on those kinds of artworks. Artworks can be hard on the pocketbook and few would fall on the range of what regular people can easily afford. The good news is that there are many providers that are skilled on personalized pop art portraits. Apart from having a wide range of options in the numerous aspects of the print, people would also appreciate that this subject is something that is near to their heart. A portrait can have the subject of any of the members of your family. There are a lot of people who also turned to having pop arts of their pets. What ever the case is, it is a issue of deciding upon color palettes and styles that might be perfect for the place where it is likely to be placed.

The start without doubt is having a snapshot that might work well as pop arts. After the birth of the electronic period, it would be rather impossible not to come across one that would be appropriate for it. If a person is still not satisfied with what they have, they can ask friends who have some background in photography to take pictures for them. It would be best if they specify that it is intended for pop art portraits. If all else fails, they may enquire for a professional to obtain those pictures.

After acquiring the best photo that has defined shapes and tones, it will be time to make a decision on the different designs of pop art there is. The most popular would have to be the style of Andy Warhol. People can also choose airbrush and graphic designs if they wish. It all depends on what decorating style they have in a specific room. For pop art portraits that have more details, screenprint style would be best.

The effect of having the portrait in black with a background of any color would look quite lovely for some. Those would be perfect for people who are not aiming for artworks screaming with color. Whatever the case is, each of the styles pop art comes in would still have a different feel simply by changing the color palette. Several would go for two or three totally different shades of a color. Others like the idea of integrating some black or some white into the portrait.

You will also find others who delight in as much color as they desire. Considering the color of the wall or the color scheme of the wallpaper would also be a good step in choosing the apt colors for the pop art portraits. It would be a good idea to check out the different colors and styles before deciding on what they want.

Others even like the thought of acquiring the same portrait in four varying color schemes. Those can be printed on one big canvass or four separate smaller canvasses. A singular portrait can also be divided on a number of canvasses.
